About the position.
As a steel fixer, you work with reinforcing steel for concrete structures: from foundations and floor slabs to columns and precast elements. You read bending schedules and working drawings and make sure the reinforcement is placed in exactly the right position with the correct concrete cover. Accuracy here determines the structural safety of the end result.
What will you be doing?
- Reading and interpreting bending schedules and reinforcement drawings
- Cutting and bending reinforcing steel to size with a bending and cutting machine
- Fixing and tying reinforcement meshes and mats with tying pliers and tie wire
- Placing spacers to achieve the correct concrete cover
- Checking reinforcement position, bar diameter and laps before pouring
- Coordinating planning and pouring sequence with formwork carpenters and the site manager
What we ask of you.
- MBO level 2 Steel Fixer or Concrete Construction, or at least 2 years' proven steel fixing experience
- Ability to read bending schedules and simple structural drawings
- VCA Basic certificate required
- Physically fit and able to work independently on busy construction sites
