Wire EDM Operator

About the position.

As a wire EDM operator, you machine metal parts with high precision using electrical discharge machining with a thin brass or molybdenum wire. You work on complex shapes and contours in hardened tool steel or exotic alloys where conventional machining is not possible or not economical. Accuracy to the micrometre is the norm.

What will you be doing?

• Setting up and programming CNC wire EDM machines (e.g. Fanuc, Sodick, Charmilles)
• Setting up and aligning workpieces on the machine in line with the drawing and zero point
• Loading and checking machining programs (DXF import or manual input)
• Monitoring the EDM process and adjusting parameters when deviations occur
• Measuring machined parts with precision measuring tools (CMM, micrometer, profile projector)
• Documenting machining results and archiving programs

What we ask of you.

• MBO level 3 or 4 in Machining, Mechanical Engineering or Toolmaking
• Proven work experience as a wire EDM operator on CNC wire EDM machines
• Able to read precise 2D working drawings with tolerances and surface finish specifications
• Experience using precision measuring tools and CMM is an advantage
• Accurate, patient and able to carry out quality checks independently
