Glossary — Industry jargon explained

A
ABU Industry association
The Algemene Bond Uitzendondernemingen — the industry association for staffing agencies. ABU members follow the CAO for temporary workers. FlexHero is an NBBU member (not ABU).
AVG Privacy
Algemene Verordening Gegevensbescherming — the Dutch name for the European privacy law (GDPR). It regulates how we process the personal data of skilled workers and clients.
B
BSN Identity
Burger Service Nummer — the unique personal identification number in the Netherlands, required for wages to be paid. Foreign skilled workers obtain it via the RNI.
C
CAO Employment terms
Collectieve Arbeids Overeenkomst (collective labour agreement) — agreements between employers and trade unions on pay, working hours, holiday allowance and supplements. For temporary workers, the client's CAO applies.
CV Recruitment
Curriculum Vitae — an overview of work experience, education and certificates. Our CV tool helps you create a professional CV in 5 minutes.
D
Secondment Service type
A form of staffing in which the skilled worker works for one client for a longer period, employed by FlexHero. Often with a training or career development programme.
F
Phase A/B/C Contract · historical
The old staffing phase system (Phase A → B → C) is no longer used by FlexHero. Every employee signs an employment contract for an indefinite term straight away, with fixed hours under the client's CAO. See Your contract for the current approach.
G
G-account Financial
A blocked bank account into which clients deposit the wage portion of the invoice. It indemnifies the hiring company against chain and hirer's liability.
I
Inlener Client
The client company where the skilled worker actually works and under whose direction they work — while the employment contract is with FlexHero.
K
Chain liability Compliance
The legal liability of clients for payroll tax or VAT not paid by staffing companies in the chain. SNA certification and a G-account reduce this risk.
N
NEN 4400-1 Certification
Dutch standard for staffing companies that guarantees an agency meets its tax and employment law obligations. FlexHero is NEN 4400-1 certified.
O
ORT Pay
Onregelmatigheidstoeslag (unsocial hours allowance) — a supplement on top of gross pay for working at irregular times (evening, night, weekend). Percentages set by the CAO.
P
Payroll Service type
An arrangement in which the client recruits and selects itself, but FlexHero takes over legal employership (contract, payroll administration, sickness absence).
R
RNI Identity
Register Niet-Ingezetenen (Non-Residents Records Database) — for people who work in the Netherlands but do not live there. This is where you apply for a BSN.
S
SNA Certification
Stichting Normering Arbeid — manages the NEN 4400-1 quality mark and the register of certified staffing agencies.
SNF Certification
Stichting Normering Flexwonen — the quality mark for housing labour migrants. It sets requirements for space, hygiene, safety and privacy. All our locations are SNF-certified.
U
Staffing Service type
Flexible deployment via a staffing agency, where the skilled worker is employed by the agency (FlexHero) and works under the direction of the hiring company.
Timesheet Administration
A weekly overview of hours worked, filled in by the skilled worker and approved by the hiring company. The basis for payment and invoicing.
V
Holiday allowance Pay
A mandatory supplement of 8.33% on top of gross pay, paid out annually (usually in May). Shown on the payslip as a reservation.
VCA Safety
Veiligheid, Gezondheid en Milieu Checklist Aannemers (Safety, Health and Environment Checklist for Contractors) — a mandatory certificate for working in industry/construction. VCA Basis for operatives, VCA VOL for supervisors.
W
Waiting days Illness
Days at the start of a period of illness for which, depending on the CAO, no wages are paid. At FlexHero there are no waiting days: your wages are paid from the first day of illness.
Z
ZZP Service type
Zelfstandige Zonder Personeel (self-employed without staff) — a freelancer/entrepreneur working on their own account. FlexHero brokers freelance assignments with suitable contracts and G-account arrangements.
