What do I do on my first day at work?
Practical checklist — what to bring, what time to start, what to wear?
What should you bring?
- ID — passport or EU ID. Required for identification by the hiring company.
- S3 work boots — if you don’t have them yet, we’ll sort them out (costs discussed in advance).
- Workwear — often provided by the client company; if in doubt, check with your recruiter.
- Lunch & drinks — some sites have a canteen, others don’t. Ask during your induction.
- VCA card & certificates — on paper or in the FlexHero app.
- Your contact person’s phone number — we’ll send it to you via WhatsApp.
What time do you start?
We’ll state the shift times in your assignment in advance. Rule of thumb: arrive 15 minutes before start time so you can park without rushing, attend your safety briefing and be on the shop floor on time. Running late? Always call — don’t text.
Safety briefing
At every new location, you’ll receive a short safety briefing. This will cover: emergency exits, first aid/emergency response, smoking policy, machine safety, and who your supervisor is. Ask questions — nobody will think it strange if you don’t know something on day one.
Safety first: If you don’t understand an instruction because of the language, ask for clarification or have it written down. Working without clear instructions is never allowed — and should never happen.
Transport to the workplace
Do you live at a FlexHero location? If so, we’ll arrange transport (carpool or bus) or a bike. Otherwise, you’ll use your own transport; you’ll receive a travel allowance in line with the collective agreement (€0.23/km from 11 km one way, in 2026).
Time tracking on day 1
At most locations, you clock in and out using a pass or fingerprint. Otherwise, you record your hours on a paper or digital timesheet. On Friday, your manager checks and uploads the hours to our system — your pay will be in your account the following Thursday.
Is something different from what was promised?
Is the role not as described, is the workplace unsafe, or is the culture downright bad? Call or WhatsApp your recruiter the same day. We believe you are more important than any single assignment — if there are any concerns, we’ll take action or find you something else straight away.
